A Night at Norman Island

After a day spent exploring the Baths on Virgin Gorda, Kent, Rich and I motored through the Sir Francis Drake Channel, which is the main channel through the British Virgin Islands. Norman Island, our destination for the night, lies about 13 miles from the Baths on the south perimeter of the BVIs. The Channel Islands have a history full of piracy. Uninhabited except for a herd of goats, locals often refer to Norman Island as Treasure Island because of rumored buried treasure. It's reputed to have been the setting for Robert Lewis Stevenson's book, Treasure Island. There are caves to explore by sea, turquoise waters to snorkel, and several shipwrecks for diving.

We anchored in the well-sheltered Bight, choosing a beautiful spot along the cliffs. We were briefly tempted to dinghy over to Willy T's, a schooner converted into rather raucous pirate ship-style restaurant/bar moored in the harbor. At Willy T's, customers can watch the more rowdy partyers jump topless into the bay. Alas, no partying for us! Our next day's destination: St Thomas, in the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Only a few pictures during daylight from our brief stay at Norman Island...
